Do you dream of having your name in lights for everyone to see? Then the Capitol Theatre is the perfect venue for you!
Located on the historic square in downtown Lebanon, this hidden gem is rich with history and unique touches that will excite the couple who is looking for something a little different. The building itself is 70 years old and was converted to an event space from a movie theatre by its current owner. The space is available for not only weddings, but is also used by a local production company for Broadway style plays and numerous celebrities for music videos.
Elizabeth Rhea, one of Capitol Theatre's Creative Directors, shared with me each nook and cranny on my recent visit while filling my mind with stories of days gone by. As you enter the front of the building you will find the original floors and the concession area perfect for your cocktail hour. You can even add your own special photos to the original poster cases.
You will have the perfect space to get ready for your big day with separate dressing areas for the bride tribe and the groom and his men. In fact, there are even several rooms that you can choose from based on the size of your party and your specific needs.
The attic space, found during renovations when knocking down some walls, can be used for smaller ceremonies seating around 50 people or for the bride and her bridal party to prepare for the big day. The space is open with gorgeous exposed brick walls, exposed steel and piping and eclectic lighting. Mirrors can be brought in for the perfect bridal portraits.
The Capitol Theatre also boasts another all indoor option for your dream day with seating up to 250 people in the auditorium. This area was converted from the movie room and is now designed to dance the night away. The stage at the far end of the room allows for you to be the complete center of attention as you share your first kiss as husband and wife.
Throughout the building you will find some of the coolest lighting this photographer has ever seen! The upstairs chandelier is made of German milk glass and matches one that belongs to Johnny Depp. The story goes that both chandeliers were accidentally shipped to Mr. Depp and he had to return the second one to The Capitol Theatre on his own accord. The staircase below makes an ideal location to showcase the train of your dress.
I asked Elizabeth for all of her tips to make your day a little smoother. She recommended to always make sure you understand the restrictions of each venue and to know if you need event insurance, a low cost necessity at most places. You do not have to use preferred vendors with The Capitol Theatre allowing you to choose the perfect fit for you in every area, but they will be happy to provide you with some suggestions if the need arises.
With this venue you will find photo opportunities at every turn, a chance to experience a piece of history and a space that your guests will talk about for many days to come all within 20 minutes of downtown Nashville.
