A few months ago I made a switch in my blogging platform and website. This means that all the content I had on my old page disappeared. I admit that I was a little lazy and did not take the time to copy and paste very many of my blogs into the new platform which left me with little to no content…eeeekkkk! So…
I have been uber focused on writing lately and am finding that it is SO.MUCH.FUN! If you have missed it, I am featuring some local venues in the Middle Tennessee area, and let me tell you, there are so many great places for your special day.
But….this blog post is something different. I have not introduced myself in a bit so I thought we could play a game of 10 things you do not know about me!
#1 I have loved photography forever but have only been a professional (meaning having an actual brand and business name) for about 5 years with 3 of those years being focused in weddings. It took me a little bit to figure out my editing style so if you see my early work (please do not judge too much) it is all over the place! If you see my work now you will find a consistent look that is both timeless and classic. I think that we are all beautiful in our own way and should feel empowered in that beauty. My photographs will capture that and live on for many years on the walls of your home.
#2 I am a mom to my incredible 4 year old and have the added awesomeness (yep, that is a word) of being a bonus mom to my favorite 14 year old. My husband and my girls are the reason that I do everything. They need me to be at my best and part of my best is finding ways to be creative. Photography allows me an outlet for that passion.
#3 I have worked in education for 20 years as a teacher, counselor and most recently a behavior interventionist. I have worked with some of the best in the field and have gotten to know some crazy talented kids through the years. One of my favorite things is watching the people I work with in middle school or high school move on to become outstanding adults. When they reach their goals, I reach a small part of mine.
#4 I graduated college in 3 ½ years…but it was not on purpose. I got caught in the shuffle of transferring schools who used different systems and no one knew what they were supposed to do with me. I find that my life is like that pretty often…no one quite knowing what to do with me. I have actually learned to embrace that weird in between place and find great joy there.
#5 I am the world’s worst at putting away laundry. I have no problem washing and drying clothes (except the occasional time I forget to put the clothes in the dryer and have to wash them again…we have all done it!). But, putting them away is happens in 7-10 business days in my house.
#6 I LOVE THE HALLMARK CHANNEL! Yes, I know that the main characters are going to end up together in the end, no, I do not need you to remind me of that every time I watch one. Seriously, I watch almost every Hallmark movie available and will have marathons on Christmas movies.
#7 I have a birthmark on my arm that is in the shape of a Christmas tree. You know those get to know you games where you have to write down something unique about yourself and people try to guess whose clue it is? Yep, I have an automatic answer that no one ever thinks about. I have not yet “decorated” my arm for Christmas, but the thought has crossed my mind.
#8 I love to entertain (and it drives my husband insane). I would have people over every night if I could find that many friends, ha! One of my greatest joys is having my house filled with friends of mine and even friends of my girls. My cup runneth over after a night spent just catching up.
#9 I am all about making connections. Relationships literally mean everything to me. I want to know my friends, I want to support them and my family is a given in my book. But I also want to know you, my clients. I want to hear about your dreams and even the things that you are struggling with. When we take pictures together, I want you to forget about the outside world for a few minutes and see everything around you as a blessing. If I can’t do that then I am failing at my purpose.
#10 I love love! It sounds silly, but I am obsessed with romance. It is why engagement sessions and wedding days are some of my favorites. I am all about those quiet moments where you can literally feel the love that a groom has for his bride. Or the tears that come to a father’s eyes when his baby walks down the aisle. I love then the bride comes alive when she is with her bride tribe or when her mother kisses her cheek after zipping up the wedding dress. Every detail matters from the wedding invitations to the wedding photography style that speaks to you. I love to capture each moment and special touch. I know how much planning goes into the big day and I want to make sure that every single one is remembered forever!
When I started this blog I asked my husband what people should know about me…he had a few of the same things as me, mainly that I constantly watch Hallmark and work in education, but here are the others that he added that you may enjoy.
- You don’t give myself enough credit! He is right about this one. Anyone else struggle with constantly feeling like you are not enough?
- I like everything planned out. Right again…I love a good list and well thought out calendar. This is a plus for you because it will help your session run much smoother!
- You change your breakfast menu up too much. We have a standing Waffle House trip almost every weekend and I have about 5 things that I rotate through ordering..unlike my husband who orders the exact same thing EVERY.SINGLE.TIME!
- You like a lot of creamer in your coffee. I did not start drinking coffee until my early 30’s. I’m not sure how I lived without it, but it is a necessity these days. And I love a good flavored creamer turning it a nice pale color.
- Fall is probably your favorite time of year. It absolutely is! Fall has the most gorgeous colors and do not get me started on those golden hour sessions in the fall and family trips to the pumpkin patch. The only thing that tops it is the twinkling lights of Christmas.
- You are a secret UT fan! This is his favorite thing. I love football but grew up without a definitive team. I pulled for Alabama for many years after watching them with my sister and brother in law (the world’s biggest Tide fan), but in recent years I have grown to celebrate the success of the Vols more and more in support of my husband.
- You love the game of basketball. I played for many years and coached for quite a few also. I do love the game, but what I love most is watching my 14 year old have a growing passion for the game and getting to coach her.
- You love your hubby! I do love my husband, but it makes me giggle that he threw this one in as one of the most important things you should know about me.
Now that you know me, I need to know you! Let’s schedule a session and chat about all the things that matter to you while we take the perfect picture for your living room wall!
